RECAP: The Makeup Show NYC 2012

Hey guys! I attended this year's makeup show in NYC and I wanted to share bits and pieces of my experience in photos with you.  I met quite a few beauty bloggers for the first time in person after reading their blogs and following them on twitter for almost a year!  Some of them include: Danielle of The Style & Beauty Doctor, Sherry Blossom, Makeup by RenRen (actually, been reading her blog for way more than a year), Kia of Yummy411, Felicia of This That Beauty plus more!  I'll also share some tid bits from Dior/celeb makeup artist, Ricky Wilson's seminar.

Following this post, I'll list all the products I bought along with the discount price I paid for each item.  But first, click below for photos and more....

The Makeup Show Artists....
Orlando Santiago, James Vincent, Jon Hennessy, & Esterique Aidan *Danessa Myricks is Missing from this Photo*

Can I just say that I LOVE James Vincent?!  He's one of the organizers of The Makeup Show, so I witnessed him moderating a few of the seminars over the course of those 2 days....and I never got tired of hearing him speak!  He's so engaging, and honest, and funny....all while being informative.  Plus, he seems to genuinely enjoy meeting and interacting with people.  Awesome personality!

 Ricky Wilson's Seminar
(Dior Beauty's Celeb Makeup Artist)
Ricky during His Demonstration

Ricky Wilson is signed to Cloutier Remix.  Some of his clients include Leighton Meester, Sharon Stone, Kate Walsh, Elizabeth Banks and Vivica Fox.  He mentioned during the seminar that he's also had the pleasure of doing the Queen Bey....aka Beyonce...and may be scheduled for her upcoming performance during Memorial Weekend.  Speaking of which, I'd love to see her in concert again...but why Atlantic City??  I'm not trying to go all the way there...come on over to the Gardens Bey! :)

But I digress, carry on...

Ricky Wilson Facts + Makeup Tips

* He likes MAC Strobe Cream for a nice glow

* He preps the face with Embryolisse mixed with another moisturizer (I believe from Dior).

* He uses aquaphor to prep the lips (his favorite)

* Face Atelier is one of his favorite bases in the world...he says it gives really flawless coverage without looking cakey on the skin.

* He does foundation first BEFORE concealer

* He always uses liquid foundations (and sometimes creams)...he doesn't like the way powders photograph.

* He creates his contours with a cream foundation applied with a Beauty Blender (he uses the sides of the sponge to blend that area)

Ricky's Model's Final Look
* He says "warm taupe" is the ideal color to contour with on somebody with fair skin to say a Rosario Dawson and MAYBE a Beyonce.

* He flicks the contour up at the end to create a nice pocket to apply the blush

* The modern way to contour is to create the contour line higher than traditionally done.

* He says to always put lipstick underneath gloss (never apply gloss alone or else your client will have to reapply too often).

* He sometimes uses aquaphor on the face (cheekbones) when he wants a wet look.

* He always works top to bottom when doing eye makeup.

* He says when applying lashes, ask the client to lift eyebrows and look down.

Day 2 Seminar: Breaking Down Barriers & Building a Career
Left to right: Maurice Stein, Crystal Wright, Michael DeVellis

Looks like Crystal Wright Wants to Set Something Straight! :)

One thing I remember from this seminar is Crystal Wright saying something to the effect of: "Stop asking companies what's THEIR budget...YOU give them YOUR rate!  Their budget has nothing to do with your rate!"
