Sam Fine's Tips on Choosing the Perfect Red Lipstick!

Hello Darlings!  I was on Facebook last week and saw that Sam Fine posted some beauty tips (as seen in the March 2012 issue of Allure) on how to choose the perfect red lipstick for your complexion.  He cites celebrity examples for comparison, suggests the type of red to look for based on how you match up, then suggests the Fashion Fair lipstick that corresponds (Sam Fine is now the Creative Director for this longtime women of color brand).  Click below to check it out, I just HAD TO share! ....

The 2012 BET Honors: Makeup Winners!

Did you guys watch the 2012 BET Honors last week?  I did, and I must say that it was very well done!  Since I'm writing this post way after the fact, I'm going to jump straight into it and bring you my fave makeup looks of the night...starting with Miss Kelly Rowland!  Loved the makeup AND hair....that big, curly style really suits her! I remember this was her signature look for Destiny's Child's final go-round.  Glad she brought it back.  On another note, can I just say that purple is definitely Kelly's color!  I loved how her makeup artist matched the dress by adorning her eyes and lips using various shades of purple...who says being matchy-matchy has to be tacky!?  Kelly looks gorgeous!  Not sure who's behind this makeup look, but I would place my bet on Latasha Wright...looks like something she would I know she loves adding that strip of color along the bottom lash line.  Click below for my other top makeup looks (no special order)......

2012 Grammys: Best Makeup Looks!

Wow, what a weekend!  First and foremost, my sympathy goes out to Whitney Houston's family and friends....especially her daughter Bobbi Kristina and mother, Cissy Houston. Very sad.  Whitney was definitely an icon...the golden standard for what a true vocalist should be.  And to her family, I'm sure she was so much more.

In the midst of mourning, the music world moved forward in a celebratory spirit to honor those that offered us great music in the past year.  And none was more celebrated than the awesomely talented British vocalist known as Adele.  She swept up 6 Grammys (which was well-deserved) and wowed the crowd with her comeback performance.  Not to mention, her makeup was simply classic and of the best looks of the night! Don't you agree?  Click below to see some of my other picks...

My Thoughts on the Cover Girl Queen Collection EBONY Bronzer for Contouring

Coming off the discussion of whether or not dark skin should be contoured, I thought it would be appropriate to follow-up with a post on a product that is often recommended for this purpose: the CoverGirl Queen Collection Natural Hue Bronzer in Ebony Bronze.  I've had it in mind to talk about my experience with this bronzer ever since I stopped wearing it a few months back, and this topic just brought it to the forefront once again.   Why'd I stop wearing it?  Well, I didn't think it was appropriate to be used for contouring.  It may have other uses, but contouring isn't the most ideal least for me.  Here's why....

KHADINE WEIGHS IN: Contouring Not for Dark Skin Tones?

Recently, there was a guest post on Temptalia on the subject of "blushing and highlighting", where the author (Victoria) essentially advocated AGAINST contouring dark skin tones as there's a chance of it looking "muddy".....this caused quite a stir in the blogosphere!  Some of Temptalia's readers took offense and voiced their complaints in the comment section below the article, as well as via Twitter.  I, on the other hand, wasn't as negatively moved by the statement.  I certainly disagree with the author on the suggestion that dark skin cannot or should not be contoured, but I actually see the logic in what she's saying (I'll explain further).  Here's the exact quote: [Click below to continue]......
