What's On My 2012 Christmas BEAUTY Wishlist!

Hello Beauties! It's less than a week before Christmas and I haven't yet done my Christmas shopping...have you?  I always like to first make a list of people I plan on getting presents for, and then next to their names, write the type of gift I'm getting them...but I haven't yet done the second part.  It gets way too overwhelming to shop without a plan, especially during this time with increasing crowds in stores everywhere.  On the flip side of things, though I might not have figured out what to get my fam and friends, I certainly know what I want on my list ;)....or for the purpose of this blog, my beauty wishlist!

Rihanna's Red Carpet Look at Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2012!

Did you guys watch the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show last night?  I didn't get a chance to see it, but I certainly saw the photos of Rihanna on the red carpet and my first thought was: "she is ridiculously gorgeous"!  Of course, you have her genes to thank...but you can't deny that her makeup artist also did the damn thing (Mylah Morales, is that you??)!  Everything about her look was perfect.  You see the beautiful contour along her cheeks carried up into a warm halo around her forehead....the luminescent effect along her brow bone and cheekbones...the edgy, dark lipstick that goes so well with her personality...and just her overall gorgeousness!  I absolutely love this look...also, this lipstick color is very in season...and once again, Rihanna can do no wrong for me...Did I mention I was a fan? Lol

BEHIND THE SCENES: Photo Shoot for Caribbean Designer's Resort 2013 Collection!

Hello Darlings! Take a look at some photos from up-and-coming Caribbean designer, Karen De Freitas' Resort 2013 shoot (for her women's wear line called Soka).  The photo above I think is my favorite from this collection's look book.  I just love the whole styling and the fact that the blue eyeshadow really pops against the colors she's wearing.  Check out more from the shoot below (makeup done by myself and photography by Irina Lastochkina).....

How to Rock Chrisette Michele's New Look!

What are you guys up to this Monday evening?  I'm here sitting in my apartment waiting for Hurricane Sandy to bear down on NYC.  It's been very windy all day with bits of rain, but the storm hasn't yet hit full force.   So while I still have power let's talk about Chrisette Michele and her fab new look, shall we?...I'm loving the honey/blonde ombre'd natural hair and of course her makeup in these new promo pics.  Her look here is characterized by bold brows, matte red lips, and long, spidery lashes.  Wouldn't you love to rock this face?  Click below to see my product suggestions.....

What I Did for My Birthday Weekend (Plus My Short Reflection on Getting Older)!

Hello there! How's everyone doing?  Hope you all had a fab weekend.  Mine was very eventful for more reasons than one, but especially because I celebrated my twenty-uhhhh birthday (I'm still in my 20's, that's all you need to know :p )!  I seriously don't know where time flies...in my mind, I'm at least 5 years younger!  It's like once you turn 18 or 21, the years start to race ahead.  But I must say that I'm definitely wiser and that I'm grateful for.  I still have more learning/practicing of life lessons to do...for instance, actually living in the present...it seems so simple, such a beautiful notion...but applying it to daily life doesn't come so easily (especially when things get hectic).  Or, accepting each and every one of my flaws.  How many of us can say we actually do?  That's something to work on.  As much as I love makeup and beauty and glamour and the works, I think it's even more important to do the inner work.  No, I know it's more important.  Beauty inside and out is the goal

Anywhooo, see that photo above?  That's me heading out to meet a group of friends for my birthday brunch on Sunday.  I had dinner the night before in Harlem, which was great...and then Sunday I continued the food fest (I love a good meal)...Click below for more photos.....

BEHIND THE SCENES: She Looks Just Like a Barbie Doll!

Happy Monday everyone! ....I can't believe the summer has drifted away already.  Here in NYC you can already feel the Fall chill in the air, though technically the season hasn't yet changed...but that's September for ya.  Anywho, I wanted to show you guys photos from a magazine shoot I did last summer.  I'm just now posting this because I had to wait for the issue to come out (which it never did)...so here I am a year later.  The professional shots were taken by photographer Anastasia Blades....hair was done by Myss Monique...and of course, makeup by yours truly! ... I swear this model looked like a real-life Barbie doll (especially in my behind-the-scenes photos).  Her name is Sam Fox by the way!

Wonder Who's Doing Nene's Makeup These Days?

Have you guys seen Nene lately?  I'm asking for good reason....I couldn't help but notice how flawless her makeup looked in these photos taken over the weekend (courtesy: Talking with Tami).  Nene is pictured above at her shoe release party where she unveiled a new pair of heels called the "Nethia" (Nene's real name is Lenethia, so you can guess where she got the inspiration).  Now normally, people have a lot to say about Nene's (and a couple of her Housewives of Atlanta co-stars') makeup choices...mostly referring to their love for the frosty brow highlight...but it seems like Nene has left those days behind.  Her makeup is on point!  Which begs the question...has she switched makeup artists?  Who has been doing her makeup these days?  I want to know!

Speaking of being on point, Nene wasn't the only one looking fab...her Real Housewives of Atlanta partner in crime aka model, Cynthia Bailey, was also on hand to celebrate...and her face was flawless as well! Click below for the photo....

My Favorite (Everyday Wearable) Go-to Makeup Look this Summer!

Hola chicas!  This has been my hands-down favorite go-to look for the summer: teal winged liner and soft pink lips.  I can't tell you how many times I've worn this same combination.  I just love it!  I normally apply a tinted moisturizer on the skin (instead of foundation) and add a nice coral blush (plus some highlighter to get that good summer glow). The picture quality isn't that great because I used my camera phone in horrible lighting...but you get the gist

Click below to see which gel liner and lipstick I use....

Why Are All My Faves Being Discontinued?? :(

Ok maybe not ALL my favorite products are being discontinued, but 2 of my staple products have disappeared off the shelves: Maybelline Define-a-Brow in Dark Brown (shout out to one of my YouTube subscribers for bringing it to my attention a couple months ago) and the whole range of L'Oreal HIP Color Truth Cream Eyeliners (which I recently found out on a trip to my local CVS pharmacy).  Why would they do this?  The former was supposed to be my cheaper alternative to the MAC brow pencil, and the latter was my dream cream liner, since most of the ones that profess to be creams actually feel more gel-like in texture.  I normally don't like to stock up on products (for fear of becoming a beauty hoarder)--unless of course there's some kind of two-for-one sale...but now I'm mad I didn't pick up a couple of extras!  Had I known they were going to be discontinued, I definitely would have been on it!  You know what this means now??

Model from My Beauty Shoot Makes Cameo in Diddy, Future & Ludacris' "Same Damn Time" Remix Video!

Happy Tuesday Lovelies! Here's some fun news ...In my previous post (Orange County Beauty Shoot), I talked about our model having to rush out right after we finished the second makeup look because she was booked for a video shoot with Diddy and new-comer rapper, Future.  Well, they've finally released the music video (a remix to the summer hit Same Damn Time) and she definitely made a few cameos!  I spotted her several times throughout the video counting money and looking cute (with 2 other video models) with Diddy rapping in the forefront.  By the way, I wonder if they used the same makeup I did from the photo shoot in the video?? Hmmmm.....

BEHIND THE SCENES: Orange County Beauty Shoot!

Hola! Remember I mentioned going to LA in June for about a week or so?  Well, while there I did a photo shoot with photographer Mariusz Jeglinski (who was an absolute pleasure to work with).  Actually, the shoot took place in Laguna Niguel, which is in South Orange County.  So I rented a car from enterprise and drove for an hour and a half from West Hollywood (that's the area of LA that I stayed in) to the photographer's location....and it was all worth it!  But can you believe it took me 2 hours and 50 minutes to get back to LA??  That's almost 3 hours!! I guess I got a taste of the infamous LA rush-hour traffic.  Anyhow, we worked with model Hazel Raine, who was gorgeous!  Loved doing her makeup!  Right after the shoot, she dashed off saying she had to head to Hollywood for a  last minute gig as a lead in the music video for Future's "At the Same Damn Time" remix featuring Diddy.  I have no idea who this rapper named "Future" is, but now I'm looking forward to seeing the video! Lol.....Click below to check out the photos from the shoot!.....

Hello lovelies!   I've finally uploaded the follow-up to my foundation routine video!  This is actually my first tutorial where I show you how to create a makeup look.  If it seems familiar to you, this is because it's a recreation of a makeup look I posted a few months ago.  The video is quick and to the point, so it should be easy to follow along.  Plus, I've included the full list of products used below.

BEHIND THE SCENES: Plitzs Fashion Week NYC 2012

Happy Friday Beauties! ...I've been super busy as of late, so haven't been posting as much as I'd like.  I was actually in LA for the past week (attending the Emmy's, doing a photo shoot, catching up with friends and associates like fab makeup artist Cataanda J etc.)..up until yesterday morning.  Anywhoooo, I've been meaning to share some of these photos from a 2-day fashion show I worked on this past February during NY fashion week.  It was put on by Plitzs Fashion Marketing and featured 36 designers, an insane amount of models, and a limited amount of hairstylists and makeup artists to get the job done!  I counted at least 16 models whose faces I made up that day (never done that many faces in my life)!  One of the models I glammed up is pictured above.  Her look is characterized by bold eyes AND lips, as well as contoured cheeks.  I believe I used a charcoal grey color to give her that sexy, smokey eye...and used a fuchsia lipstick to give her that 'pop.'  I took this photo before she went into "hair," which was her next stop before hitting the runway.

BEHIND THE SCENES: Natural Bohemian Shoot

Hello Darlings!  How many of you think that natural-looking makeup is boring?  I used to think so but I have such an appreciation for it now, especially being a makeup artist and knowing the work that goes into it.  Just because you don't see color, doesn't mean there was no technique used in creating the look.  Natural can be so pretty and so romantic!  Anyhow, I'm sharing with you a shoot I did last month with Darbe Rotach (a music and lifestyle photographer).  He wanted a Bohemian feel so asked me to do a natural look on the model (Ashani Rivers).  I did the task though it wasn't exactly barely-there makeup.... it was more of an amped-up natural (just 'cause I'm in love with glamour ).

PRODUCTS & PRICES at The Makeup Show NYC 2012 (What I Bought & How Much I Spent)

Sooooo,  have you read my recap of this year's Makeup Show NYC?  Are you curious about the brands that were present, products that were sold, and discounts that were offered?  Then this post is for you!  I've listed (and included photos) of ALL the products I purchased at the show, as well as the exact price I paid for each item.  At the end of the post, I'll reveal which purchase I felt was my best buy!

Some of the discounts I took advantage of included items from NARS (I had been dying to finally get my hands on their blush in Taj Mahal plus been in love with their tinted moisturizer "Seychelles" ever since I received a sample from Bloomingdales a few weeks ago...great match for my complexion).  Kevyn Aucoin was also offering a good discount on their Sensual Skin Enhancer ... got a couple for my kit.

RECAP: The Makeup Show NYC 2012

Hey guys! I attended this year's makeup show in NYC and I wanted to share bits and pieces of my experience in photos with you.  I met quite a few beauty bloggers for the first time in person after reading their blogs and following them on twitter for almost a year!  Some of them include: Danielle of The Style & Beauty Doctor, Sherry Blossom, Makeup by RenRen (actually, been reading her blog for way more than a year), Kia of Yummy411, Felicia of This That Beauty plus more!  I'll also share some tid bits from Dior/celeb makeup artist, Ricky Wilson's seminar.

Following this post, I'll list all the products I bought along with the discount price I paid for each item.  But first, click below for photos and more....

I'm Back: My Adventures in COSTA RICA!! (Lots of Photos)

Tamarindo Beach, Costa Rica .... Enjoying the Sunset on My First Night
Hello Darlings! .... I didn't tell you where I was going beforehand, but I'm back.... from Costa Rica!!  I had a lot of fun. Good company. Just an overall pleasant experience.  When I came back earlier this week, I was still a little sore from doing "adventure activities" such as zip lining (boy did they strap me in...I felt the harness squeezing in every crevice...and I mean EVERY crevice), tubing (hit a couple of rocks going down the river), and horse-back riding (well, I opted out of this one, but my friends went ahead and had enough fun for me).  I also got to walk across a hanging bridge (which swung with pretty much every step we took...one of my friends wasn't feeling it AT ALL but I thought it was cool).  When I got to the other side of the hanging bridge I was greeted with a mud bath (my skin felt so smooth and silky afterwards) and natural volcanic hot springs.  Fun times...

Khadine Is Off to a New Land....

Hello Darlings! .... Hope you all are well!

I'll be going out of the country on vacation for the next few days, so there won't be any blog posts this week.  I'll try to do an update as soon as I get back...possibly mid-to-late next week.  Now if you'll excuse me, I'm about to wind down for the night so I can catch my flight in the morning ;)

Thanks guys! <3

Khadine

p.s. Can you tell from the photo which country I'll be headed to??  (I could've given a better hint, but I just happen to like this photo...Lol).  Anyone who guesses it is really good!

My Top Celeb Makeup Inspirations So Far this Spring!

By now you've experienced all the buzz surrounding Think Like A Man, the romantic comedy based on Steve Harvey's similarly titled NY Times best-selling book about the ever so complicated world of relationships.  I haven't seen it as yet, but being that it won the #1 spot at the box office this past weekend, plus the fact that I've been hearing pretty good reviews, I think that might be my next movie expedition!  Last Saturday I went to the movies but I opted for Bob Marley's new documentary instead.  Anyhow, what I really want to talk about is Adrienne Bailon's makeup at the NYC screening of Think Like A Man. Have you soon these photos??  Her makeup here gives me LIFE!  How flawless is everything...her nose is perfectly contoured...the brows are soft, yet defined...the shimmery coral lips and cheeks complement her bronzed skin tone and adds further warmth along with her fiery red dress....it's just perfect!  Who's to credit for this (my guess would be Mario Dedivanovic)??  Whoever it is, you are simply amazing!  This look definitely makes my list for one of the most inspiring this Spring.

Beyonce's Makeup at Rita Ora's Cartier Event....Slam or No Ma'am?

Remember my 3 Mistakes Made by Makeup Newbies to Avoid at All Costs post?  Remember I warned you against wearing bright colored lipstick while neglecting to line or define the eyes??  Well, this photo of *gulp* Beyonce, Queen Bey, is the unfortunate example of EXACTLY what I'm talking about.  Beyonce rarely takes a bad photo, but this choice of makeup has apparently allowed her to do the unthinkable!  This is NOT the Queen Bey I know!   Is this some new Spring trend or editorial look that I haven't caught onto?  I doubt that.  If Beyonce were going for a high fashion look, her wardrobe would also be in on the theme (and clearly she looks more comfortable than anything else...to put it nicely).  I'm not sure what's going on here, but I definitely think this whole look is a miss!  A miss for her back yard? No.  For a public event? YES!....especially for Bey.

Mario D: Makeup Tips, Techniques, Favorite Products & The Kardashians!

Happy Monday Beauties! ... I'm back with a Part II to my post on Mario Dedivanovic's First NYC Workshop.  If you don't know who Mario D. is, he's most known for being Kim Kardashian's go-to makeup artist!  In the first post, I did an overall recap of  the event, plus gave my honest feedback....but this post will focus on the actual information I gathered while there.  It's always great to get a peek into the process and preferences of a master in your field.  I'll be sharing some of those tid bits with you, along with more photos of Mario's model/celebrity guest, Adrienne Bailon.  By the way, Adrienne Bailon is an ex-girlfriend of Kim K's brother, Rob Kardashian...just in case you cared to know!  But I digress....

For the inside scoop on Mario's techniques, makeup tips, favorite products, and what he had to say about working with the Kardashians, click below to continue reading....

OVERDUE REVIEW: Mario Dedivanovic's First NYC Workshop!

Hey guys! Remember a few months ago when I told you that Kim Kardashian's makeup artist (Mario Dedivanovic) was hosting an NYC workshop?  Well, the workshop took place like 10 moons ago (January 7th of this year), and I was definitely in attendance.  I took plenty of notes, snapped quite a few photos, and learned some techniques that I will soon share with you.  Why am I just now writing a recap?  Well, I wasn't exactly pleased with certain aspects of the event.  On the one hand, I was inspired because Mario did such an amazing job during the demo portion of the workshop, but yet was also disappointed because he didn't follow through with everything that was advertised.

Below, you'll find my review.....photos of Adrienne Bailon (his model/celebrity guest)....and other random pics from the event.  Click below to continue...

Behind the Scenes with Model E Taylor!

How are you doing guys!? I hope your Friday morning is off to a great start!  ... I wanted to share with you all a photo shoot I did last August with model, E Taylor.  If you watch Love and Hip-Hop, you may have seen her cameo in an episode where Emily worked a fashion show for designer Samantha Black.  This was the one where her on-again off-again rapper/boyfriend, Fab, surprised her by actually showing up and sitting front row and center.  Anyway, E Taylor was one of the models that worked it on the runway...they showed a quick shot of her getting ready backstage too.  You may have also seen E Taylor in the original Basketball Wives promo ad (she was the model they used before they actually started showing the faces of the cast members).

Anywho, click below to check out our photo shoot...She was seriously the coolest person to work with!

REVIEW: Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture SPF 35

Happy Friday guys! .... I just started using my new Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture SPF 35 this week, and already I'm so happy I made the purchase!  Because of my hyperpigmentation, it's imperative for me to use a daily moisturizer with at least an SPF 30 (or risk having the spots become even darker).  But the problem with a lot of these SPF moisturizers is that they can sometimes be too thick and tend to take a while to absorb into the skin.

Such was the case with my Eucerin Everyday Protection Face Lotion (SPF 30), which is what I used prior to purchasing my Neutrogena this week.  It wasn't as thick as say a straight-up sunblock, but it was thick enough for me to want something different.  And guess what? I think I've found that something...and that something may possibly be the best SPF facial moisturizer I've tried so far!  Click below for the full review (pros, cons, price etc)....

"Winning" Magazine Covers So Far This Year...These Celebs Rock!

Happy Friday, Beauties!! ... March has just begun and we're still in the first quarter of 2012, but already there have been some winning, perhaps even iconic magazine covers created.  By now, you've already seen the March 2012 issue of Vogue with Adele on the cover...this girl is giving face (and a little boobs too..lol)! Have you seen those contoured cheeks?  That thick, bold, sexy winged line and cut-crease action on the eyes?  The soft, pink-colored lips and just below that, the natural dimple in her chin for an added elegant effect?  This is the best I've seen her look!  Miss Adele, aka this year's Grammy Queen is in full diva mode! Oh, and let's not forget to mention her thick bouncy hair flowing in imaginary wind.  Vogue couldn't have chosen a better cover.  Congrats Adele on all your success....and thanks to Vogue for featuring a true talent

Who else is making waves this year AND memorable magazine covers? Click below to find out!...
